Tasting notes
The Frankland River region once again produced a superb vintage in 2018, and Amelia Park Wines’ 2018 Reserve Shiraz is one of the most outstanding wines of the bunch. This exquisite shiraz is a soft, velvety, well-balanced wine that displays lovely aromas of plum, cherry and mulberries, with hints of mocha and spice. The palate is full of plum and berry flavours supported by soft velvety tannins. Aged in French oak for eighteen months, this wine offers excellent cellaring potential.
Winemaker notes
For this wine, Amelia Park sources its grapes from a single vineyard in the Frankland River. This region is perfectly suited to producing many red and white varieties due to its continental climate combined with low vigour and moderate ripening conditions.
The cool climate of this particular vineyard produces typical Frankland River Shiraz, which is intense in colour with ripe flavours, yet remains elegant in style and structure.
Amelia Park’s Reserve Shiraz uses a selection of the very best fruit from each vintage; it’s identified early and put aside to mature in French oak for 18 months before blending.
Vintage report
The 2018 vintage will go down as another outstanding one in Frankland River. Favourable conditions for flowering and fruit set were followed by ample rainfall that ensured optimal vine canopies and fruit balance.
Vintage conditions were perfect for ripening and resulted in a harvest that began in mid-February and concluded in mid-April. Mild weather and little disease pressure resulted in wines with beautiful flavours and great natural acidity.
